Babar Azam is likely to be replaced as captain for Afghanistan’s Twenty20 International series. The goal is to give new cricketers a chance and construct a side for the Twenty20 World Cup in 2024.

According to media sources, left-arm bowler Shaheen Afridi would most likely captain Pakistan in the next three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

According to sources, the selection committee, which is chaired by Haroon Rasheed, is debating whether to rest several veteran players, including Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, the current all-format captain. Giving young cricket players an opportunity will help develop a team for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Ihsanullah, Saim Ayub, and Osama Mir are some of the players being considered for the national squad owing to their outstanding achievements in the current Pakistan Super League (PSL).

On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) jointly decided to make a few minor changes to the series’ schedule.

The first game of the series will now begin on March 24, and the final two games will be played in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on March 26 and 27.
