On Wednesday, a MQM-P team met with Premier Shehbaz at the PM House, where the announcement was made.

Party Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui headed a team that comprised Governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, and Federal Minister of Information Technology Syed Aminul Haque.

Khawaja Saad Rafique, Minister of Railways and Aviation, and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Minister of Economic Affairs, both attended the meeting.

The MQM-P spokesman claims that Prime Minister Shahbaz told the team in no uncertain terms that the decision to hold the elections using the previous census had not been made.

According to the spokesman, Prime Minister Shehbaz has ordered the correction of errors in the voter rolls of the inhabitants of Sindh, particularly those of Karachi.

The spokeswoman said the prime minister had informed the group that the MQM-P will be included in decision-making at every stage.

The prime minister has organized a committee to ensure engagement with the MQM-P, whose spokeswoman stated is an important coalition party.

According to the spokesperson, PM Shehbaz said, “The committee will ensure consultation with the MQM-P on all matters, including the new elections and the caretaker government.”

He also said that Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, and Khawaja Saad Rafique would serve on the committee.

The group praised the prime minister for keeping a close eye on the federal government’s ongoing projects in Karachi and making sure that the highest priorities were met as quickly as possible.

The MQM-P delegation was also complimentary of the premier and his economic team for their work in finalizing the agreement with the IMF.

Shehbaz continued his marathon discussions to reach an agreement on when to hold the forthcoming general elections and what form the caretaker government should take.

At a meeting at PM House on Tuesday, the leaders conferred with former president Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari about the caretaker set-up and the country’s general political situation.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar and Minister of Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Apparently, it was determined during the meeting to also confer with the other coalition parties.

Meanwhile, sources told The Express Tribune that dissolving the National Assembly was still being discussed and would be decided upon only after consulting with coalition parties.
