Amid a harsh crackdown and political vengeance against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, a potential coalition partner of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in the city government, the JI in Karachi has petitioned the Election Commission of Pakistan to postpone elections for reserved seats in the city council.
Raja Arif Sultan, deputy chief of JI in Karachi, penned the letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
He said that the country as a whole was experiencing political turmoil and chaos, but that in Karachi, the crackdown against the PTI had been exacerbated by political retaliation.
