MIANWALI: On Tuesday night, the Punjab police stopped a terrorist attack at the Makarwal police station in Mianwali, causing the attackers to flee.

Police officials said that 20 to 25 armed gunmen tried to enter the police station but were met by police officers, members of the counter-terrorism department (CTD), and other troops who bravely resisted and drove the terrorists away.

District Police Officer (DPO) Mianwali Muhammad Naveed arrived at the police station with additional staff right after following the assault.

The Station House Officer (SHO) was contacted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, who expressed his gratitude for their courage and devotion to duty.

According to the IGP of Punjab, the Mianwali Police should receive full assistance from the CTD, Elite Force, and Special Branch in this operation in order to successfully prosecute the terrorist elements.

Following the incident, all of the police officers, according to DPO Naveed, were unharmed. After the police opened fire in retaliation, he continued, a few terrorists were hurt, but their companions retreated for the mountains, taking the wounded with them.

The police surrounded the area after the incident and began a search operation to apprehend the terrorists.

In the meantime, IGP Anwar assembled a four-person special squad in response to the Mianwali attack, consisting of a Special Branch, Operations, Additional IGs Training, and a Deputy Inspector General (IT).

The committee would organise search and combing activities with RPO Sargodha to find the terrorists. Additionally, the IG Punjab oversaw swift search activities in Mianwali, particularly in the vicinity of the Makarwal police station and its surrounding regions.

Anwar reaffirmed the need for other law enforcement authorities to join in on a thorough search operation in Mianwali and for zero-tolerance prosecution of terrorist members and anyone who aid them.

The Express News reported that Makarwal police station is located between 10 and 15 kilometres from Isa Khel, which is where Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa begins.

PM presents awards

The nation and its institutions are working together to end the threat of terrorism, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.

He thanked the Punjab police in a statement for stopping a terrorist attack on the Makerwal police station in Mianwali and said he would present awards and certificates of gratitude to the personnel who showed outstanding bravery.

He spoke “Our first line of defence in the war against terrorism is the police. The Punjab Police and CTD have played an important part in the fight against this threat, and the entire country is proud of them.”

The premier promised that the CTD and the police would be bolstered even more and given access to cutting-edge equipment.

Attacks on police enforcement organisations have increased across the country as a result of terrorism. During the Monday afternoon prayers at a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines, a suicide bomber detonated himself, killing at least 100 people, many of them police officers, according to police and medical personnel.

Officials affirmed that the attack was a suicide bombing and that the bomber was in the first row when the explosion occurred.

According to Muhammad Ijaz Khan, a Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), the bomber set up his device as hundreds of people were lining up for prayers.
