ISLAMABAD: Former minister Fawad Chaudhry filed a bail plea, but the Islamabad High Court (IHC) denied his request for instructions to a trial court to consider it quickly.

The motion that claimed that the Islamabad Accountability Court-I judge would not consider Chaudhry’s bail request—he is presently being held in connection with a corruption case—was considered by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.

The application asked the court to mandate an expedited hearing of the bail plea in the accountability court.

Justice Farooq denied the plea, citing the illness of Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court and the recent appointment of Judge Nasir Javed Rana as his replacement.

The IHC chief justice pointed out that since Rana is a senior jurist, it would not be acceptable for the court to order the recently appointed judge to handle Chaudhry’s lawyer’s motion.

He said, “We will issue directions if the trial court does not address the application. Wait until the next hearing in the case.”
