Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the incoming chief justice of Pakistan, paid a visit to Jaranwala Tehsil in the Faisalabad district on Saturday to check on the local Christian community after a crowd incensed by blasphemy accusations set fire to 19 churches and a number of residences in the area.

The police and district administration informed Justice Isa, who will take over as Chief Justice of Pakistan on September 17, one day after CJP Umar Ata Bandial retires. This took place at Danish School.

On August 16, an enraged mob that had been stoked by mosque loudspeakers assaulted the neighborhood, terrorizing Christians while looting and torching at least 19 churches and over 80 homes.

The Punjab police had arrested at least three local Christians earlier that day for various offenses.
