The views expressed by Sher Afzal Marwat, the fiery leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in a private TV program regarding Saudi Arabia’s purported involvement in a “regime change operation”—which the party holds responsible for toppling Imran Khan’s government—have been disowned by the party’s central leadership and spokesperson.

Yesterday, during an appearance on a private television channel, Marwat implied that the United States and Saudi Arabia were involved in the overthrow of Imran Khan’s government. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, made a high-profile visit at the same time as this announcement.

In response, the PTI said in a statement released on Wednesday that Marwat’s opinions in no way represent the party’s position or strategy. The party made it clear that his remarks are entirely his own and have not been approved by the PTI leadership or any of its members.

As one of Pakistan’s closest and most reliable fraternal Islamic countries, the spokesman emphasized the significance of the country’s connection with Saudi Arabia. He emphasized the deep regard the PTI holds for the fraternity, mutual respect, and trust that the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Excellency Mohammed bin Salman, have with Imran Khan.

The spokesperson also reaffirmed PTI’s dedication to promoting close ties and fraternity between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The party reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to helping in this respect and offered good wishes for the welfare and advancement of Saudi Arabia’s leadership and populace.

The most recent event is the latest in a string of disputes around Marwat, who has already sparked conflict inside the party.

Marwat was purportedly removed by Imran Khan earlier this month from important party roles, such as focal person and member of the committee in charge of screening people allowed to meet Khan at Adiala Jail.

Marwat was also told to dissolve his social media group. It was claimed that the PTI core committee’s suggestions served as the basis for these choices.
