One of AKU’s largest projects in East Africa is the new campus construction in Kampala.
Pakistan’s first private institution, Aga Khan Institution (AKU), is building a new campus in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Her Excellency Janet Museveni, the First Lady of Uganda, and Princess Zahra Aga Khan were present during the groundbreaking event.
There will be a seven-story University Centre and a nine-story student housing facility on the 60-acre Nakawa site. The hospital will offer services in over a dozen medical subspecialties, such as family practice and oncology.
This is a major investment for AKU in the region of East Africa. The university’s existing School of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as its internal medicine and surgery residency programs, will benefit from this expansion.
Early in 2019, construction on the hospital will begin, and a four-story ambulatory care building will open to provide outpatient care across a range of specialties.
