Pakistan is looking forward to playing their World Cup matches in Chennai and Kolkata.
On October 5th, the competition is slated to get underway.
According to Press Trust of India, the Pakistan cricket team would prefer to play the majority of its matches during the 2023 ODI World Cup in Chennai and Kolkata (PTI).
According to ICC sources, the Men in Green will favor these two destinations since they have previously felt comfortable there throughout their visits.
Beginning on October 5, the tournament will consist of 46 games, including the championship match, that will be contested in 12 Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bombay, Rajkot, Bangalore, Delhi, Indore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Dharamasala.
According to the source, there are discussions about this delicate matter going place at the ICC level, and top representatives of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are currently in meetings with a senior ICC executive.
Pakistan would prefer to play the majority of its World Cup games in Kolkata and Chennai, but much would rely on what the BCCI and the Indian government decide.
“Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against India was played in Kolkata in 2016, and the players were pleased with the level of protection. For Pakistan, Chennai will always be a special place. On condition of anonymity, a source close to the ICC Board who is keeping watch of developments told PTI that it’s also about feeling safe at particular sites.
The final will be held in the Narendra Modi Stadium even though Ahmedabad has the biggest capacity (132,000), which would provide the ICC the best opportunity to generate the most money. As a result, the game between India and Pakistan can be played somewhere else between Chennai and Kolkata.
Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB management committee, said in a recent interview this week that Pakistani supporters do not want their team to play in India for the World Cup if India does not reciprocate by hosting the Asia Cup in Pakistan.
“I am aware that some people do not want us to visit India if India does not visit Pakistan. People expect us to be assertive and refuse to follow orders, “said Sethi.
