LAHORE: India is holding up the issuance of visas to Pakistani pilgrims wishing to visit the esteemed Sufi shrine in New Delhi, citing the impending Urs celebrations of Hazrat Amir Khusro (RA).

Pakistani pilgrims are expected to leave on Tuesday, or today, but there is uncertainty while they wait for the required travel documents from Indian authorities. Around the world, devotees gather for the Urs, which takes place from April 23 to April 30.

The Indian High Commission was scheduled to send passports and visas to the religious affairs department on Monday, according to sources within the Ministry of Religious Affairs. However, as of Monday, New Delhi had not provided any orders regarding visas.

Notably, in advance of the Urs, 199 pilgrims from Pakistan arrived in Lahore on Monday. Concerned ministry representatives warn that pilgrims would have to delay their trip until Wednesday if visas are not granted on time.
