CHAKWAL: The dean of the law school at the University of Chakwal has been placed on administrative leave after suspicions of drug distribution on campus surfaced.

Dr. Ghufran Ahmed was suspended on the orders of Vice Chancellor Muhammad Bilal Khan. Assistant professor and chairman of the legal department, he earned his doctorate in law from the International Islamic University in Islamabad, according to the university’s website.

According to those in the know, he has been replaced as department chairperson and will stay suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Accusations against the professor followed reports of an increase in drug use by university students in neighboring parks.

There were rumors that the ‘ice’ (crystal meth) use among students was a major concern for the university’s faculty.

According to the source, a global probe has found evidence linking Dr. Ahmed to the supply of illegal goods.
The University of Chakwal, the sole institution of higher learning in the city, opened its doors to students in January of 2020.

According to one university employee, drug use first appeared on campus before spreading off campus.
Allied Park, City Park, and Committee Bagh are frequently frequented by groups of students, both male and female, who appear to be engaging in illegal activities.

The usage of harmful substances among college students has also been the subject of a film that has gone viral on social media.

Law enforcement has not been called in yet, as the university is conducting its own investigation.
