ISLAMABAD:
Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders were directed by an Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) to present their arguments in support of their request to have terror charges against them dropped as a result of their protests outside the Pakistan Election Commission (ECP).

In a case filed at the Sangjani police station, a number of party leaders, including Asad Umar, Ali Nawaz Awan, and Amir Mughal, were charged with terrorism, obstructing justice, and vandalism, among other offenses.

The cases had been brought after protests erupted after the ECP disqualified former PM Imran Khan.

Judge Raja Jawad Abbas of the ATC heard the case today and approved Asad Umar’s request for an absence.

Sardar Muhammad Masroof, an attorney for PTI, pleaded with the ATC to remove the terrorism-related clauses from the case.

The hearing was postponed until March 28 after the court urged the parties to present their arguments opposing the terror clauses at the subsequent hearing.
