ISLAMABAD:
After three days of government shutdown due to protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) employees across the country, the national exchequer lost more than Rs3.5 billion due to destruction and arson.

The Federal Board of Revenue also suffered a loss of revenue of roughly Rs2 billion due to the disruption of commercial activity, while the Pakistan Software Export Association (PSEA) reported that the IT industry does $12 million in daily business. According to the PSEA, the IT industry lost a total of Rs10 billion in just three days.

The PTI workers’ protest caused an estimated loss of Rs1.14 billion, with an original estimate of roughly Rs2 billion in the telecom industry owing to vandalism and the burning of government property.

The loss of revenue from the suspension of telephone, internet, and social media was estimated at Rs600 million. Thousands of day laborers lost their employment around the country as a result of the protests, while transport companies saw a decline in revenue as a result of the suspension of transportation.
