To further trade, investment, education, water management, wind, and solar technologies between Pakistan and Scotland, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Sunday that a conference will be held in London.

Shehbaz told reporters following his meeting with Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf in London said he had fruitful discussions with a “young and energetic” leader.

The two countries, he said, “agreed to strengthen cooperation.” He went on to say that Scotland’s around 80,000 Pakistanis living abroad were making major contributions to the country’s growth and prosperity.

Shehbaz responded to a reporter’s inquiry by saying, “NCA investigated this matter for two years, and with the blessing of Almighty Allah, I emerged innocent.” The money laundering allegation against him was dropped after two years of investigation.

“[Former Prime Minister] Imran Khan used all tactics and wasted state money as well as precious time to defame me,” he claimed. “The NCA found nothing against me and now the British investigation agency has given me a clean chit in this matter,” he continued.

Shehbaz claimed that Imran Khan was a con man who regularly took advantage of his supporters. He said the PTI leader was a “liar and a hypocrite from head to toe” who displayed “ingratitude” to everyone, including his own donors.

Shehbaz had already met Humza Yousaf, when the latter paid him a visit in London. Shehbaz congratulated the first minister on his victory, saying that it demonstrated the good impact of the British-Pakistani community on the progress of the United Kingdom.

The two groups discussed how to improve their ties during the meeting. Trade, investment, education, water management, wind and solar technologies, and people-to-people exchanges are all areas where they’ve committed to working together more closely.

In an effort to make the most of the Scottish-Pakistani businesspeople’s connections, the two groups also decided to encourage cooperative ventures in a number of different sectors. They also resolved to work together to combat climate change.

The prime minister proposed conducting a meeting for investors and a road show to highlight Pakistan’s renewable energy potential in Scotland.

The prime minister expressed appreciation to the Scottish government for its aid during the 2017 floods. Yousaf welcomed Shehbaz’s invitation to visit Pakistan. Yousaf is the first person of Pakistani ancestry to hold this post in the United Kingdom.

Shehbaz also tweeted that the 5th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue, which took place on Saturday in Islamabad, demonstrated the continued commitment of Pakistan and China to promoting peace, stability, and economic growth in Afghanistan.

The region’s economic potential cannot be unlocked until peace and stability are restored. Investment in peace and stability through a concerted and prolonged effort will provide positive results for all parties involved, he added, “including the success of initiatives to improve regional connectivity and social and economic progress.”
