ISLAMABAD:
According to reports from Tuesday, the caretaker administration has narrowed its list of potential federal cabinet members down to 16.
The new cabinet members will likely be sworn in over the next several days.
According to reliable sources, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, a columnist, has been confirmed to join the caretaker federal cabinet alongside industrialist Gohar Ejaz, experienced civil servant Shoaib Suddle, and Senator Sarfaraz Bugti.
Cricketer Shahid Afridi will serve as the federal minister in charge of inter-provincial coordination, and Mohammad Ali is expected to be granted the energy ministry job.
Dr. Waqar Masood, according to some reports, is in the running to be the interim finance minister.
This came about after reports surfaced that Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar had stepped up consultations with potential appointees to the interim cabinet.
Sources say the interim prime minister has decided to establish a smaller cabinet so that he may examine the backgrounds of each candidate in person.
