A first-level officer will set you back about Rs27 million.

The data reveals that the government spends a total of 49,000,000 on a grade-17 or gazette officer’s salary and pension.

After factoring in all the extras, it comes to Rs136 million. The figure increases to Rs245 million once operating costs are factored in. This is a 30-year commitment.

Those who enter the military at the lowest cadre, grade-1, can expect to earn a total of Rs8 million throughout the course of their careers. When benefits are factored in, it increases to Rs17 million.

To keep the business running, we need to spend another Rs27 million. The research also raises concerns about the use of unnecessary layoffs in government agencies and the problem of political and corporate patronage hiring incompetents.

It was pointed out that politicians often use job chances to create a supporter base among voters who are more likely to vote for them by giving them jobs, especially inside their own party or patronage network.
