ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued an order to the Inspector General of the Islamabad Police to bring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry before the court tomorrow.

Last Monday, the police caught Fawad as he was leaving the Supreme Court (SC) premises, where he had hidden for more than 12 hours to avoid arrest.

He had shown up earlier that day to file a petition against the IHC’s judgment that effectively authorized the detention of party head Imran Khan. Law enforcement officials arrived at the courthouse shortly after and waited to detain him. He spent the entire day inside the highest court and was only arrested when it was nearly dark.

The application claimed that there was a reasonable possibility that Fawad would also be arrested. An additional civil miscellaneous petition was submitted by the PTI leader with Imran Khan’s appeal, which stated that Khan had been granted protective bail by the IHC till May 12.

The police had been waiting patiently outside the SC building for Fawad to leave the entire time he was there. At around 11:30 p.m., when Chaudhry was finally able to leave the building, police were waiting outside and swiftly apprehended him.

Faisal Chaudhry, Fawad’s brother and legal lawyer, argued before IHC Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb today.

In court, he emphasized that Fawad’s detention occurred despite the fact that he had been granted bail by the supreme court.

“The police had been informed [of the interim bail], but they did not obey court orders,” the attorney said. A copy of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq’s (IHC) previous orders was also submitted.

“IG Islamabad was present in the courtroom when this order was issued,” he continued.

The court then served notices on the district magistrate and the IG Islamabad. The latter is responsible for presenting the case file in court.

PTI Members Taken Into Custody

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, and Maleeka Bokhari were among the PTI leaders whose incarceration was challenged in petitions heard by the IHC.

Today, Barrister Faiza Asad argued on behalf of the PTI leaders in court that several of them were incapacitated by health problems.

The jail administration was directed by the court to allow the PTI leaders’ lawyers and families to visit them.
