Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the former chief minister of Punjab and head of the Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was granted pre-arrest bail by an anti-corruption court on Friday. This postponed his arrest until May 17.

Elahi is charged with taking part in a 125 million rupee corruption scheme.

Elahi, his son Moonis Elahi, and his principal secretary Mohammad Khan Bhatti are among those named in the first information report (FIR) filed in the case for allegedly receiving kickbacks worth Rs125 million through Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) from a foreign company against a payable amount.

Elahi is suspected of taking a bribe totaling Rs. 6.5 million out of the whole sum, with the remaining money allegedly going to other people.

Additionally, the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment asserted that it has filed a FIR against the defendants based on strong evidence.

However, the former CM’s attorney insisted that the accusations were untrue as he appeared before the anti-corruption court on Friday.

In his view, the lawsuit was politically motivated and registered with the goal of “humiliating” Elahi.

He stated, highlighting the fact that the PTI leader had “nothing to do with this case,” that “the FIR’s narration is a concocted story.”

The judge then ordered Elahi to participate in the investigation while still granting him pre-arrest bail.
