Another extension has been granted by the Lahore High Court (LHC) until September 13 for the Punjab IGP to locate missing anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan.

Khan’s father was pleading with LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti to help him find his son, who has been missing since his detention on May 11, 2023, at Sialkot Airport.

Positive developments in the search for the missing anchorperson were reported to the court by the IGP of Punjab. He asked for more time to produce Khan, saying that “good news” will arrive within 10 to 15 days.

The judge noted that while an extension is being sought once again, progress is also being sought.
The IGP was ordered to meet with Khan’s father and legal counsel at 5 o’clock yesterday (Wednesday), and the high court granted a six-day extension.

The court had previously given the government until July 25 to produce the missing anchorperson, but no hearing was held on that date, purportedly due to the availability of the bench. The original due dates of May 22 and May 30 were pushed back in this extension.

The court ordered that the relevant law enforcement and intelligence agencies coordinate their efforts to bring about his safe return.

After the riots on May 9, the police reportedly arrested the anchorperson on May 11 for being a strong supporter of former PM and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and his ideas.
