BANGKOK:
On Saturday, firecrackers stored in a warehouse burst, killing at least nine people and injuring more than a hundred, according to officials in southern Thailand.

Narathiwat’s governor Sanan Phongaksorn told Reuters that the firecrackers had detonated and started a fire inside an unlicensed warehouse in the Muno market in the Su-ngai Kolok district of the southern province, which borders Malaysia.
Unidentified human remains have been discovered, leading him to speculate that the current death toll of nine may perhaps be an underestimate.
According to Sanan, 106 of the 115 people who were hurt and sent to the hospital have now been released.
Sanan estimated that between 20 and 30 families had to seek refuge in a shelter after their homes near the warehouse were damaged in the explosion that affected 365 individuals.
He stated that the fire was contained and that police would reexamine the situation for possible causes.
